Kuwaiti Team Wins Best Robot Construction Award

Kuwait City, Kuwait: A team from Kuwait University has emerged victorious at the VEX Robotics World Championship held in Texas, USA. The team, representing the College of Science’s Department of Computer Science, secured the prestigious “Best Robot Building” award. This is the first university team from the Arab world securing this kind. Also the Middle East to achieve this feat in the global competition.

The news was met with excitement by Nada Al-Daihani, Director General of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity. Al-Daihani praised the team’s success, highlighting the potential of Kuwait’s young generation. Also the importance of nurturing their talents through such global experiences.

The winning team, consisting of students Abdullah Al-Jabr, Abdul-Wahab Al-Obaid, Abdul-Rahman Al-Daghim, and Osama Hassan. They impressed the judges with their meticulously constructed robot. Dr. Noura Al-Jari, the team’s supervisor, emphasized the success of their training program built around a robust scientific curriculum specifically designed for international competitions. She expressed her hope to see even more students qualify for such prestigious events in the years to come.

The robot’s design prioritized durability, strength, and reliability during competition, while also demonstrating a high level of attention to detail and safety considerations. These factors aligned perfectly with the competition’s core judging criteria.

The VEX Robotics World Championship is organized by the International Robotics Organization in collaboration with Kuwait University and the Ministry of Education. The event is also supported by Zain and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity.
