This significant rise in medical leave requests has resulted in a strain on healthcare facilities. It also suggests potential disruption to the educational system’s regular operations. The Ministry of Education has yet to publicly announce any measures to address this situation.

In contrast, the Ministry of Health has demonstrated proactiveness by launching an emergency dental clinic for children at the Jahra Specialized Center for Pediatric Dentistry. This initiative aims to cater to urgent dental needs of children under 16 years old during holidays and official breaks.

In a separate healthcare development, Professor Jassim Al-Hashel, a neurology consultant at Ibn Sina Hospital, provided valuable insights into the historical use of fasting as a treatment for epilepsy. He explained the potential antiepileptic properties of ketones, produced by the body during fasting periods.

Professor Al-Hashel emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining medication schedules throughout Ramadan for patients with epilepsy. He advised taking medications during both suhoor and iftar meals, even if the dosing interval falls below 12 hours. Furthermore, he urged individuals with epilepsy, and particularly parents of affected children, to prioritize regular sleep patterns. He cautioned against late-night activities, exposure to bright screens, and excessive use of electronic devices, all of which could potentially trigger seizures, reported Al Jarida.
