Around 200 Candidates Set to Contest Kuwait’s Parliamentary Elections

Kuwait City: The Kuwait Court of Appeals rendered a decision on Sunday, rejecting appeals filed by several parliamentary election candidates. Consequently, Marzouq al-Hubaini, former MPs Marzouq al-Khalifa, Ahmad Moteh al-Azmi, and Jaber al-Muhailbi have been barred from participating in the upcoming polls. It is due to violations observed during by-elections.

Reacting to the decision, former MP Marzouq al-Khalifa took to the X platform, addressing the Interior Minister. He expressed defiance against what he perceived as unjust rulings and vowed to continue speaking the truth through legitimate channels. “You will not intimidate us,” he asserted, accusing the minister of fostering discord among the Kuwaiti people.

With these disqualifications, the total number of candidates in the race for the April 4 National Assembly elections stands at approximately 200.

In preparation for the electoral process, the Justice Ministry disclosed that 123 schools have been designated as polling stations across the five electoral districts. Specifically, 16 schools have been allocated in the first district. 18 in the second, 22 in the third, 28 in the fourth, and 34 in the fifth.

As Kuwait braces for the parliamentary elections, these developments underscore the significance of the democratic process and the active participation of citizens in shaping the nation’s future, reported KUNA.
