Kuwait: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has issued a stark warning regarding a concerning rise in physical inactivity across all demographics. Dr. Abeer Al-Bahwa, Director of the Health Promotion Department, reported that a significant portion of the population is not engaging in sufficient exercise. With particularly concerning figures for women (75% inactive over 18). Men (61% inactive) and both youth (79% and 90% inactive for males and females aged 11-17, respectively). Also seniors (76% and 85% inactive for males and females over 70, respectively) also show alarming trends.

Dr. Al-Bahwa emphasized the critical need to address this issue, citing a clear link to rising obesity and diabetes rates in Kuwait. She highlighted the potential of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan as a time for individuals to integrate physical activity into their routines, fostering improved overall health outcomes.

The Ministry’s call to action extends beyond individual responsibility. Dr. Al-Bahwa underscored the importance of a multi-sectoral approach. Enhanced collaboration across government ministries is seen as essential to promote health awareness. Also implement effective policies that encourage physical activity for all age groups.
