Kuwait Imposes Travel Ban on Expats with Unpaid Fines

Kuwait City, Kuwait: Kuwaiti authorities have announced new travel restrictions for foreigners convicted of financial crimes. The directive, issued by Public Prosecutor Counselor Saad Al-Safran, aims to ensure compliance with court-imposed fines.

Who is Affected?

The travel ban applies to expats in the following situations:

  • Found guilty in absentia with a fine (regardless of notification)
  • Found guilty in absentia, appealed on time, but no decision yet
  • Found guilty in absentia, did not appeal within the timeframe (27 days)

The ban also applies to expats who:

  • Appealed a fine verdict within the deadline, but the appeal is pending
  • Did not appeal a fine verdict within the deadline (20 days)

Exceptions

Expats are exempt from the travel ban if:

  • They have paid the imposed fine in full
  • Appealed a fine verdict within the deadline, and the appeal is pending

Implementation

The travel ban will be lifted automatically upon full payment of the fine. The committee tasked with collecting fines has been notified for implementation.

This new measure addresses the growing concern of unpaid fines among expatriates in Kuwait. Failing to collect these fines could result in financial losses for the Kuwaiti government, reported Arab Times.
