“As charitable giving increases during Ramadan, scammers often exploit this generosity with deceptive tactics,” explains Abdulmohsen Al-Nassar, Corporate Communications Officer at Gulf Bank. “We urge our customers and the wider community to exercise caution when encountering online donation requests.”

These scams typically involve creating fake websites designed to mimic legitimate donation platforms. Unaware users clicking on links in emails or text messages can be tricked into entering personal and banking information, leading to potential theft.

Gulf Bank emphasizes the following security measures to ensure safe online giving:

  • Verify Website Authenticity: Always navigate directly to the official website of a verified charity instead of clicking on links received through emails or messages.
  • Be Wary of Unsolicited Contact: Legitimate charities will not request personal information through unsolicited emails, phone calls, or text messages.
  • Maintain Secure Information: Avoid saving sensitive details such as card numbers or PINs on your mobile device. Refrain from writing your PIN on your card and never share one-time passwords (OTPs) with anyone.
  • Practice Safe Online Habits: Regularly update antivirus software, download applications only from trusted sources, and log out of online banking platforms after completing transactions.

“Customer awareness is paramount in protecting banking data, particularly with the growing prevalence of online transactions,” emphasizes Al-Nassar. “We strongly encourage everyone to donate through verified and reputable charities with established online platforms.”

This initiative aligns with Gulf Bank’s commitment to social responsibility and community well-being. The bank encourages customers to embrace the spirit of Ramadan while prioritizing secure online practices.
