Electrical Load Index Reaches New High! Sparking Concerns of Summer Energy Crisis

Kuwait: The country’s electrical grid faces a significant challenge as the summer season approaches. Yesterday, the electrical load index reached a new record of 11,215 megawatts, coinciding with scorching temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius. This surge in electricity demand puts the Ministry of Electricity and Water on high alert for potential power shortages in the coming months.

Several factors contribute to the rising electrical load, primarily including air conditioning use, lighting, and the operation of household appliances in commercial and industrial settings. The Ministry urges citizens to adopt practices for rationalizing electricity consumption during peak hours.

Concerns are particularly high regarding older Arab homes, which are prevalent in densely populated areas. These homes often use inefficient air conditioners and lack proper insulation, leading to substantially higher energy consumption. Additionally, reports suggest that some residents use these dwellings for undisclosed commercial activities, further straining the electrical grid.

Experts recommend replacing old air conditioners with modern, energy-saving models. While the upfront cost may be significant, the long-term savings on electricity bills can be substantial. The Ministry is urged to take action to limit the use of highly energy-consuming appliances.

The government and relevant institutions are working to monitor and analyze electricity consumption patterns. Their efforts aim to ensure sufficient and sustainable electrical energy supplies while promoting energy efficiency and exploring renewable energy sources, reported Al Jarida.
