The study, led by Dr. Hoda Al-Ghareeb, found that dispensary staff – including doctors and nurses – experience a range of violent behaviors, including physical assault, psychological abuse, verbal threats, bullying, sexual harassment, and racism.

Expat Workers Disproportionately Affected

The data shows that expat healthcare workers are especially vulnerable, with 76.7% reporting some form of violence. Women and nurses were found to be targeted more frequently than men and doctors.

Urgent Call for Action

Dr. Al-Ghareeb emphasizes the significant impact this violence has on healthcare workers, causing stress, reduced job satisfaction, and potentially impacting the quality of care provided. The study calls for immediate action to address this issue, including policies and measures to create a safer work environment for healthcare professionals.

This research underscores the critical need to protect those who dedicate themselves to providing essential medical services in Kuwait, reported Arab Times.
