KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait: Kuwaiti drivers beware! The government is set to implement harsher penalties for traffic violations in an effort to improve road safety.

The proposed amendments to the Traffic Law include significant fines and potential jail time for various offenses:

  • KD 300 fine for using a mobile phone while driving.
  • Up to KD 3,000 fine or 3 years in jail for driving under the influence.
  • Up to KD 500 fine or 3 months in jail for exceeding the speed limit.

Other targeted violations include:

  • KD 200 fine for violating tinted window regulations.
  • Fines from KD 75 to KD 200 for improper child passenger safety measures.
  • KD 250 to KD 500 fines for failing to yield to emergency vehicles or running red lights.

These stricter penalties aim to deter reckless driving and promote safer habits on Kuwait’s roads.
